OBW CELEBRATED THE MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.,
DAY OF SERVICE

“We have the opportunity to make a better nation” – Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr.

Monday, January 18 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It is a day of
service.  OBW honored Dr. King with an "Everything But The Kitchen
Sink Drive."  Through January 18, OBW collected gently used
clothes, shoes, toys, and books for various local organizations.
WHAT'S NEW WITH OBW:

We are moving our monthly beach cleanups. Our future
cleanups will take place in
Birch State Park.  Our first
cleanup in the new location will be on September 25
, at
8:00 a.m
.  Please check the Local Programs page or
Facebook for updates.

Claire's Project:

We asked young people "What can you do to make the world a
better place?"
One five year old answered that, at the Army camp
in Afghanistan where her dad is posted, the troops have no PX at
which to buy personal hygiene products like deodorant and
shampoo.  She wanted to collect those items, plus recent issues of
magazines, to send to the camp's chaplain, who disburses these
items to the troops.  We have contacted the Chaplain. The most
needed items are:

Fingernail clippers
Razors
Deodorant
Flip flops
Shaving Cream
Toilitries
Current magazines (no books)
Healthy snacks--granola bars, raisins, trail mix, etc.
Writing Paper (not cards)
Envelopes
Dental Floss
Body and hand Wipes

Your donations may be dropped off at any OBW event, or you can
send a box yourself to:

CH(MAJ) Dale A. Code

The Post Office offers flat rate boxes specifically for shipping to
military addresses.

Let us know what your child wants to do to make
the world a better place.
 One of our adult volunteers
said that she wanted to do a beach cleanup, and that has
been an OBW monthly program since April of 2009.  Two
teen volunteers want to help Haiti after January's
earthquake.  Their story is below.  Make your child's
dream -- or yours -- a reality.  Send us your child's idea at
info@one-beautiful-world.org.  We'll post the responses
on our website.  Some ideas can be done by an
individual, some require a group.  We'll post all of the
ideas, and we might be able to make some of the ideas a
reality!

You are welcome to join us for our service projects. Whether your
children are babies or in high school, your family is welcome.
Contact us beforehand, or just show up at our events.

All of the details are on the Local Programs page, and you will
remain up to date if you become a fan on Facebook.
MUSIC VIDEO
OBW has produced a music video to help children stay healthy
during flu season.

"Wash Your Hands"

Watch it with your kids, and send it to your friends with children. It
features a song by Linda Sindt (known locally as "Miss Linda") called
"Wash Your Hands." It is a catchy tune, and just the right length for
a child to sing while washing her hands.
Thanks so much to Linda Sindt, for donating and performing the
song, and to Chris Tiedje, who shot and edited the video!

HELP FOR HAITI
OBW teens are selling bracelets to benefit relief efforts in Haiti.
They are bright blue and read
"I AM HOPE FOR HAITI."  If you want
to embody hope for Haiti, for a donation of just $2 or more, find one
of our teens or contact OBW.

One Beautiful World continues to collect goods locally for shipment
to Haiti.  Check for updates on Facebook.
We have also added a new page of resources for people seeking to
contribute to the relief efforts.
