Home / Book Clubs for Kids
We have a new book club in a new location! “Cook A Book” book club is usually held on the fourth Monday of the month, at 4:00, at the Davie/Cooper City Library. The Davie/Cooper City Library is located along Griffin Road, between Pine Island and University. The address is 4600 SW 82 Avenue, Davie, FL 33328.
The book club selections generally will be for grades 3-5, but all who read the books will be welcome. As the book club’s name would indicate, at Cook A Book, we will not only discuss a book, but we’ll be making food related to the book.
Due to holidays and voting at the library, the book club will meet on Monday, January 30, 2012. January’s selection is Ramona the Pest, by Beverly Cleary. Copies of the current selection will be held behind the information desk for book club participants. Pre-registration is requested; reading the book in advance is required. Call the 954.680.0050, or visit to get a copy of the current selection.
Upcoming book club selections and dates:
Feb. 27: Maniac Magee, by Jerry Spinelli.
March 26: Sarah, Plain and Tall, by Patricia MacLachlan
April 23: Because of Winn-Dixie, by Kate Dicamillo
Thank you to Target for supporting this program.
Note: Until October 2011, OBW held our four book clubs at the Weston Branch Library. The librarians there determined that the Weston branch, which does not specialize in children’s programming, can no longer provide the staff time required for the book clubs. We have therefore, moved to the Davie/Cooper City Library, which has a very active children’s librarian, and provides a great deal of excellent free programming for children. We have started with one book club, but hope that the program will grow.
